We have found Lisbeth Salander’s home

During my visit to Stockholm I’ve heard that for many tourists the first question they ask on some guided tours is “Do you know where Miss Salander lives?” If some of you are not familiar with the global success of Stieg Larsson’s novels, this question must sound pretty crazy, but it makes complete sense. Lisbeth Salander is one of the two central characters from Larsson’s millennium trilogy, which has been a worldwide bestseller, with estimated number of 100 million copies sold.

What is the case with Lisbeth Salander’s home?

Well, Lisbeth used to live in a small apartment on Lundagatan street on Sodermalm, a district in central Stockholm.

But in the second book The Girl Who Played with Fire Lisbeth got an insane amount of money and she bought herself a new flat. She moved into a new home at Fiskargatan 9 near Mosebacke Torg on Sodermalm. For 25 million kronor, which was roughly 3.9 million USD or 2.7 million EUR, she got a suite on the top floor with 21 rooms and fantastic views over Djurgarden island. Lisbeth only equipped three rooms and she bought the furniture from IKEA, of course.

In Stockholm I took a part on Millennium Tour and Lisbeth’s apartment was the last stop on the tour. This place must really be a fascinating place to live.

Here’s an excerpt from the book The Girl Who Played with Fire. It happens after Lisbeth bought the apartment and moved in:

She fell asleep within ten seconds of her head hitting the pillow and slept for almost twelve hours. Then she got up, turned on the coffeemaker, wrapped a blanket around herself, and sat in the dark on a window seat, smoking a cigarette and looking out towards Djurgården and Saltsjön, fascinated by the lights.

If you’d like to know more about IKEA in the Millennium trilogy, you should read The Girl Who Played with IKEA.
