Location manager Paul Eskenazi turned to Google Maps to find a landscape that mirrored Cape Cod geography — eventually landing on a waterfront estate with a sweeping lawn running down to the water.
The transformation was meticulous. The team swapped wallpaper and furniture, installed a white pebble driveway, and added a flagpole and gate to the front lawn to nail that unmistakable Kennedy aesthetic.
The one exception? The key family dinner scene. The Long Island dining room wasn’t the right scale, so that pivotal sequence was built out on a soundstage instead.
Why Didn’t They Film at the Real Compound?
The Kennedy Compound is private family property and remains so today. Beyond access, production designer DiGerlando noted that the real house had been renovated significantly over the decades and no longer read as “Kennedy enough” on screen — so ironically, a Long Island estate ended up being more convincing than the real thing.

What Happens at the Compound in Episode 5?

The political pop quiz at the dinner table really did happen in real life — and Carolyn’s discomfort is palpable.

Randy Taraborrelli’s book The Kennedy Heirs, JFK Jr. brought Carolyn to the compound in September 1994 and warned her to address his aunt as “Mrs. Kennedy.” When Ethel asked Carolyn’s view on the federal assault weapons ban, she didn’t have a ready answer — a moment the show recreates almost beat for beat.
